If you're the kind of person who curls into a ball whenever a singer says, 'now it's your turn to join in' you might want to skip this evening's entertainment at the Assembly Hall.
Sing-a-long-a-Abba is fairly self-explanatory. You turn up - in fancy dress if you want - and with the hlep of on-screen lyrics are encouraged to join in with the professional singers on stage as they belt out some of the many hits. Assembly Hall, Tue Dec 1, 7.30pm, £17, www.assemblyhall

For the past few weeks, schools, community groups, families and local businesses have been busy making large paper lanterns in readiness for the Chinese New Year. Following the success of the Camden Electric lantern parade in 2008, this year’s procession will start at Trinity Theatre and move through town, down Camden Road to finish at St Barnabas Primary School. Sat Feb 13, free, 5pm, Trinity.
Rob Crilly, East Africa correspondent of The Times, will be at Waterstone’s to discuss his new book Saving Darfur, a brilliant insight into the complexities of this seemingly intractable Sudan war, an ongoing battle made accessible by Crilly’s account of those who have watched and suffered as the atrocities unfolded. Mon Feb 15, 7.30pm, £3 (refundable on purchase of book), Waterstone’s.

Bright or Dim?
Last week we asked you to describe the comedian Eric Morecambe, specifically his legs. Some confused his with Ernie's and put short, fat and hairy; a few of you rather peculiarly thought they were of different lengths, but most correctly said long and spindly.
Been to any arts and entertainment in Tunbridge Wells in the past week? Tell everyone what you thought...
It might be 30 years since the 2-Tone label began, but Pauline Black, one of its biggest stars, is still shining. She made her name with top ska outfit The Selecter, which shot to fame with albums such as Too Much Pressure and Celebrate the Bullet, but after the band split in 1982, Black took up acting, winning an award for her portrayal of jazz singer Billie Holiday. She returned to her first love of singing with acoustic supergroup Three Men + Black, which included Jake Burns from Stiff Little Fingers and the Jam’s Bruce Foxton, and in the past few years has explored her love of soul and jazz. Her appearance at the Forum is quite a coup for the venue and ought not to be missed. Sat Feb 13, 7.30pm, £15.
Celebrate the golden age of romance on Valentine’s Day with the local Tivoli Café Band, who will perform songs for lovers from the Twenties, Thirties and Forties with music that conjures up the elegant cafes and grand hotels of old Europe. The band’s Italian soprano Alessandra Testai will sing in Italian, Spanish, French, German and, of course, English, with one or two American classics from Kern and Gershwin. Lunch beforehand is supplied by L’Italia from Tunbridge Wells. Sun Feb 14, 3pm, £12 (£23 inc. lunch).
Singer-songwriter Zoe Nicol is a maverick in the world of folk music - a storyteller with a lyrical twist, but, more than that, she is an artist who possesses the rare ability to leave an audience breathless. Influenced by the likes of Joni Mitchell and Eva Cassidy, Tunbridge Wells-born Nicol has a captivating stage presence, enhanced by her modest and enchanting personality. Her full-length debut album These are the Stories is due to be released in April. Also appearing are edgy Ben Sales; mellow Leanie Kaleido & Mark Foster; and soulful Greig Mourton. Sun Feb 14, 8pm, £5, Grey Lady.
